Why is it a precious metal?

One reason is "They" have used it to back our currency on it.

But I think it is innate; we remember it as precious. It once was a big part of the culture thousands of years ago; something about it being used to preserve the upper atmosphere of an alien planet.

It can be processed to be a health supplement. The health supplement is called Monatomic/White Gold. It raises human cognition to higher levels.

Also, gold is an great radiation shield.

gold is obviously a great conductor of electricity.
